Why the King James Bible?

October 16, 2017

My title may seem strange to many of our readers.  This blog is dedicated to educating King James Bible believers as to the beauty and accuracy of the Cambridge Text of the King James Bible, to educate them as to the uniqueness of Early Modern English, and to the great advantage that we have in its utilization therein.  It can be assumed that the bulk of our readers are already sold on the merits of the King James Bible.

I am going to use the next posts to prepare for workshops wherein Brother Paul Scott and I will will be participating in Vietnam.  The Vietnam of the second decade of the 21st century is a dynamic burgeoning society bursting with optimism.  Ho Chi Minh city (Saigon) is a city of 12 million people which exhibits growth in almost every quarter.  There are building cranes on the skyline and multinational corporations are jockeying for position on its thoroughfares.

The people of Vietnam are intelligent and educated.  Their position on the South China Sea and in Southeast Asia give them an advantageous position from which to trade with the entire world.  Vietnam's universities and primary schools are overflowing with young people eager to learn English.  English proficiency is found everywhere in its cities and larger towns.

Evangelical Christianity (in this context meaning those who actively preach the Gospel for the conversion of souls) was introduced to Vietnam in the early part of the 20th century through the auspices of the Christian Missionary Alliance (CMA).  I have met men and women who are fruit from that outreach.  The upheavals of war and the consolidation of Vietnam were difficult for them.

The biggest problem associated with CMA dominance of Vietnamese Evangelical Christianity is that their first attempts at translating the Word of God into Vietnamese coincided with the overthrow of Protestantism with new and profane theories of the Bible that were extant in the late 19th century and early twentieth century.  As a result, these precious people have been bereft of the Word of God.

Baptists did translate the King James Bible into Vietnamese in the late 1950s not long after the defeat of French colonialism, but the subsequent war with America crushed any long lasting impact that bible could have and it is almost impossible to find any copies.   As a result, the Vietnamese Christians are saddled with the boondoggle of corrupt Protestant/Catholic versions such as the ever changing NIV.

Brother Scott and I are privileged to teach such a people.  Those who will be attending our seminars are eager to understand the virtues of a perfect Bible.  In my next posts I will be explaining the virtues of the King James Bible to those who are newcomers to it.  Perhaps some of our loyal readers will find these posts refreshing.  Regardless, we covet your prayers as we prepare to leave on October 25th.  If there is anyone who would like to help with that trip please contact me at asquithjm@gmail.com.
