The Body of Jesus Christ in Birth

July 19, 2018

Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me, Hebrews 10:5.

Jesus Christ has a body that at its inception and its birth, were unlike any body that had ever been before it.  At its inception, the angel Gabriel testified of that body, therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God, Luke 1:35.  The holy thing was not the soul of Jesus Christ and it was not his spirit.  Both of those were eternal.  The only part of Jesus Christ that is born of God is his body.

God has many sons.  Adam was called the son of God because of his creation.  Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God, Luke 3:38.  Likewise, Satan and the angels are sons of God by creation. Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them, Job 1:6.  What makes Jesus Christ different is that he is, the only begotten Son, John 1:18.  The other sons of God were created, Jesus Christ was born.

If he had been born in Allegany County, New York where I minister, Social Services would take an interest.  I strongly doubt that they would accept Joseph's and Mary's explanation of why Joseph was not listed as the father of Jesus Christ on the birth certificate.  They would probably start doing DNA testing.  Though they might potentially test every man on earth, they would never get a DNA match.  Jesus is the son of God.  God took a virgin from the lineage of David and impregnated her miraculously.  And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God, Luke 1:35.

The body of Jesus Christ is also described as being made. Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh, Romans 1:3.  God reached into the lineage of David to form the body of Jesus Christ.  All of those things that medical science attributes to the female in normal human reproduction came from the virgin Mary.  Those things ascribed to the male in human reproduction came from God.

In John 1:1 we are told that, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  We are then told about that Word; And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth, John 1:14.  What is that flesh?  That flesh is the Word.  When you held the body of Jesus Christ, you held something that was eternal, but is now manifest in the flesh.  That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life, I John 1:1.

Yes, the body of Jesus Christ is God.  In I John 1:1, John is not describing the soul of Jesus Christ and he is not describing his spirit.  He is describing his body, that which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled.  John tells us that the body of Jesus Christ was from the beginning.  How can that be?  It can be because the Word which is eternal God was made flesh.

In the incarnation of Jesus Christ, God the Father was the architect.  It was he that made the decision that everything that was God should be included in the composition of the flesh of Jesus Christ.  For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell, Colossians 1:19.  Jesus Christ is Jehovah God.  He is one person of the triune Godhead, but it pleased the Father that the earthen vessel that he inhabited should be composed of all that is God.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace, Isaiah 9:6.
