Fitly

And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building, 1st Kings 6:7.

One of the great marvels of Solomon's Temple was that the design for the temple came from Solomon's father David.

1st Chronicles 28:11 Then David gave to Solomon his son the pattern of the porch, and of the houses thereof, and of the treasuries thereof, and of the upper chambers thereof, and of the inner parlours thereof, and of the place of the mercy seat,

1st Chronicles 28:12 And the pattern of all that he had by the spirit, of the courts of the house of the LORD, and of all the chambers round about, of the treasuries of the house of God, and of the treasuries of the dedicated things:

1st Chronicles 28:13 Also for the courses of the priests and the Levites, and for all the work of the service of the house of the LORD, and for all the vessels of service in the house of the LORD.

1st Chronicles 28:14 He gave of gold by weight for things of gold, for all instruments of all manner of service; silver also for all instruments of silver by weight, for all instruments of every kind of service:

1st Chronicles 28:15 Even the weight for the candlesticks of gold, and for their lamps of gold, by weight for every candlestick, and for the lamps thereof: and for the candlesticks of silver by weight, both for the candlestick, and also for the lamps thereof, according to the use of every candlestick.

1st Chronicles 28:16 And by weight he gave gold for the tables of shewbread, for every table; and likewise silver for the tables of silver:

1st Chronicles 28:17 Also pure gold for the fleshhooks, and the bowls, and the cups: and for the golden basons he gave gold by weight for every bason; and likewise silver by weight for every bason of silver:

1st Chronicles 28:18 And for the altar of incense refined gold by weight; and gold for the pattern of the chariot of the cherubims, that spread out their wings, and covered the ark of the covenant of the LORD.

1st Chronicles 28:19 All this, said David, the LORD made me understand in writing by his hand upon me, even all the works of this pattern.

In the building of the temple, Solomon becomes a picture of Jesus Christ. If I do not the works of my Father, believe me not, John 10:37. Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works, John 14:10. Solomon was entrusted of God to build the temple in exactly the pattern showed to his father David.

We see from the opening verse (1st Kings 6:7), that the sound of hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron, was never heard in the building of the house. Each and every component whether it be a stone, a beam, a chamber, an engraving, or whatsoever, was carefully hewn or constructed away from the temple, and was made to fit perfectly into the temple when the time came for it to be be fitted into the overall work.

We could say that the temple was fitly made.

We see this same word used in the Apostle Paul's description of the saints of God being made one in the church.

Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

Ephesians 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord:

Ephesians 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit.

We see it again when the good Apostle describes how that every member of the body has a purpose.

Ephesians 4:16. From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

Building a church does not take hammers and saws. It takes placing those whom the Father has given through Jesus Christ into the local body so that each person with their unique gifts from God and in the beauty of their diverse personalities made holy through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ can edify the body.

Even the physical body of Jesus Christ which is now alive in heaven and in whom all of us who have been made one with Christ reside, was fitly joined. A description of Jesus Christ is given in The Song of Solomon which says; His eyes are as the eyes of doves by the rivers of waters, washed with milk, and fitly set, Song 5:2. The physical body of Jesus Christ is not some happenstance of genetics.

Psalms 139:13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.

Psalms 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

Psalms 139:15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.

Psalms 139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.

Or, as the Apostle Paul said; For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell, Colossians 1:19. Truly, the physical body of Jesus Christ was planned by the Father and fitly joined together.

That brings us to the word of God itself. A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver, Proverbs 25:11. We can only imagine the splendor of Solomon's court, his house, or his bedchamber. We get a picture of its splendor when we think of what Solomon described; apples of gold in pictures of silver. Imagine a picture hanging on Solomon's wall. Instead of using paint, the artist used molten silver to craft his picture. Placed in that picture are perfect replicas of apples, but they were formed from gold.

How many time must Solomon have mused upon that picture and admired the craftsmanship! He observed that the apples stood out because they were perfectly placed, and that they were wrought of gold. I marvel from time to time when I or someone else has been gifted with the perfect words to say in a situation. I have wept over the opposite.

For those of us who love the King James bible, we understand that every word is fitly spoken. It is a marvel of word craft far beyond the skill of even the translators themselves. Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him, Proverbs 30:5. Each and every word is like that "apple of gold". Each and every word was designed by the Father himself and fitly placed in the book of books. Glory be to the Most High God!
